"He Said...She Said" - The Marriage Forum

This Family Postman finds both me and Patty sort of “crunched” by the deadline.  Patty is preparing for a road trip and I am in the midst of a significant business decision, a week filled with Board meetings, interviews, etc.!  However, in a lot of ways, this is the “normal” Christian life in southeastern Massachusetts in 2016.

Patty and I have taken great comfort from Acts 17:26 which says God has ordained the exact time and place you should live.  “From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.” (NIV). With God's help we can survive 2016's troubles a day at a time.

Sarah Young, in one of her recent devotions in Jesus Calling, talks about that "the world around you seems to spin faster and faster" (March 9).  Sarah encourages us to return to “the soothing center":  to live in union with Christ moment to moment. (Col. 2:6 - Living version) She refers to the “cushion of calm" with regard to resting in Christ in the midst of many challenging circumstances.

For me, Doug, Isaiah 41:10 in the NKJV nails it.  “Fear not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God… I will help you…”.  Satan tries to convince me that I am facing the difficulties of life, marriage, business, alone.  This is particularly significant when looking to the future.  One Christian writer makes this comment, “How foolish it is for us to fanaticize that we are the God of our future".  In Matthew 6:34 in the Message, we are told to “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”

Business challenges, marriage challenges, health challenges…we are not alone!  God is “holding us by our right hand” with his promise to “help us” (Isaiah 41:13 NJKV).  Persevere, you are not alone!

Sincerely,
Doug and Patty
